Make a cover letter that gets results with these cover letter writing tips.
You may have a great resume but all that work could be for nothing if the cover letter is below par.
Many spend a great deal of time perfecting their resume but then slap on a quickly done up cover letter that could undo all your hard work.
Nearly every job requires a certain minimum
level of communication skills and for many jobs a high degree of communications
ability is necessary. Your cover letter is the first indication to a prospective
employer of your ability to express yourself.
Here are three simple things
not to do on a cover letter:
- Try not to use a generic salutation like To Whom it May Concern, or Dear Sir,. See if you can find out the name of the person who will read the letter.
- Do not begin by telling them where you say their job ad. They know full well where they advertised and realize that you would have either seen one of their ads or heard about it from a friend. Instead catch their attention immediately by making better use of this vital real estate space on the page.
- Dont simply summarize your resume in the cover letter. Yes this is important but your letter should also add extra info as well.
